Terms of service

The short version. Chough is a free pre-alpha. Your library is your own responsibility: store only what you are legally allowed to store. Everything you add is fetched by your own device, kept private to your account, and never shared with anyone through the service.
1. What the service is
Chough gives you a personal music library: private per-account storage for audio
files you add from your own device, and an app that plays them. It is a
pre-alpha, provided free of charge, with no promise of availability
and no guarantee that features stay as they are. Keep copies of anything you cannot
afford to lose — the app can export your whole library
(Settings → Collection → Export).
2. Your account
Sign up with an email address you control and keep your password to yourself; what
happens under your account is your responsibility. Each account currently has a
20 GB storage quota unless something else is agreed. You can delete
your account and everything in it at any time
(Settings → Account → Delete).
3. Your content
What you store stays yours. You grant us only the technical rights needed to store your files and stream them back to you — nothing more, and nothing that survives deletion.
Your library is your own private copy, and keeping it lawful is your responsibility. Store only content you are legally entitled to store: your own recordings, freely licensed works, or private copies permitted by the copyright law that applies to you, made from a lawful source. All fetching of content happens on your own device — the service never obtains content for you. Nothing you store is made public or passed to other users by the service.
4. What is not allowed
- Storing or distributing content that is unlawful to possess or that you have no right to store.
- Using your account to make content available to others — the service is a personal library, not a distribution channel.
- Trying to access other users' data or otherwise probing the service.
- Circumventing the storage quota or rate limits, or disrupting the service.
5. Reports
If you believe content stored on this service or anything on this website is unlawful, write to [email protected] with: what the content is and where you saw it, why you consider it unlawful, your name and contact details, and a statement that your report is made in good faith. Valid reports are reviewed promptly; content is removed or disabled where required, and the affected user is informed where the law requires it.
6. Ending things
You can stop any time by deleting your account in the app. We may suspend or terminate an account that violates these terms or where the law requires it, and we may discontinue the pre-alpha itself — with reasonable notice where possible, so you can export your library first.
7. Liability
The service is provided free and as-is. To the extent the law allows for a free service, liability is limited to intent and gross negligence; this does not limit liability for injury to life, body or health, or any other liability that cannot be excluded by law.
8. Governing law
German law applies. If you are a consumer, the mandatory consumer protections of the country you live in remain unaffected.
9. Changes
These terms can change; the date at the top changes with them, and material changes are announced in the app or by email. Using the service after a change means accepting it.
